California Contractors License Bond Requirements

There are indeed CSLB bond requirements that must be met in order to legally performed contracted work in the state of California. The minimum bond amount must be met and maintained each year. Failure to do so could result in the revocation of your contractor’s license and serious fines could be the result of performing work without a license.

At this time, the minimum required bond amount is $12,500. The board can change this amount if they wish, but once your yearly purchase is made there will be no need for adjustment. Should the amount go up the following year, you will be able to purchase the correct level of coverage at that time. Larger bond amounts are available, as is financing on certain bond sizes and types. Those who have bad credit should still be able to purchase the bond that they need, but may need to pay a higher premium. A co-signer can help reduce this amount.

Schaedler Insurance offers the bond that you need, and once purchased, will immediately file it with the CSLB. A free quote service is offered on the website, as are downloadable forms that will allow you to easily get started on the process of being approved for your bond. To receive a quote, simply enter your contractors license or application number and then select your desired bond amount.
